'Bloody Talons' is a quite the unique dwarf Japanese maple. It may reach 3 ft in height and width in 20 years.Ā  It is perhaps one of the slowest growing Japanese maples. The leaves cup downward giving a talon-like appearance. In the spring, these leaves leaf out as a green with red tipping, looking like blood dripping off the "talons". Fall color on 'Bloody Talon' is a bright red to deep maroon. It is normal for 'Bloody Talons' to create a bulbish-like growth at the graft. 'Bloody Talons' is a new introduction by Talon Buchholz of Buchholz Nursery in Oregon.Ā
