'Mikawa nishiki' is a special dwarf reticulated Japanese maple with bright red to deep maroon variegation with bright chartreuse green veins. 'Mikawa nishiki' has leaves that are long and shaped like that of 'Mikawa yatsubusa'. The spacing between the internodes is not as tight, but this tree does make an excellent dwarf reaching 5 ft in 10 years. Fall colors are oranges to reds.

This style of variegation on 'Mikawa nishiki' does not revert but is conditional to the environment. Spring weather that is cold and keeps maples leafing out slowly produces the best variegated leaves. Protection from the hot afternoon sun is recommended for best color.
