We have been evaluating this new hybrid circinatum for a number of years. 'Happy Dance' was found as a chance seedling by Dr. Al Mosely. 'Happy Dance' leafs out as a dark maroon, before turning to an emerald green outlined in a maroon border.Ā The heavily divided leaves have a unique shine about them that will grab your attention. The leaf shape is heavily matsumurae with a leaf shape somewhere in between 'Burgundy Lace' and 'Sensu'.Ā The fall color on 'Happy Dance' is a bright scarlet red.
While 'Happy Dance' is a circinatum hybrid, it apparently gets is strong growth habit and heat tolerance from its Acer palmatum parentage. This is one beautiful tree that will make you do a 'Happy Dance' in your garden.
