Cornus nuttallii 'Goldspot'
Dogwood
Zones 6-9
Partial Sun to Full Sun
Cornus nuttallii 'Goldspot' is a stunning variegated native dogwood prized for its unique foliage and graceful form.Ā In fall, the foliage transitions to attractive shades of red, adding another season of interest. 'Goldspot' performs best in part shade with protection from intense afternoon sun and prefers well-drained, acidic soils rich in organic matter.
This cultivar was discovered in 1919 as a branch sport by Vancouver, British Columbia nurseryman Henry Eddie and was originally introduced as 'Eddiei' before being renamed 'Goldspot' for marketing purposes. Henry Eddie was also responsible for introducing the well-known hybrid dogwood 'Eddie's White Wonder,' a cross between Cornus florida and Cornus nuttallii. With proper growing conditions, expect this tree to grow approximately 1ā2 feet per year, reaching around 10ā15 ft tall within 10 years and developing into a beautiful specimen tree over time.
