Sorbus matsumurana (Japanese mountain ash) is a deciduous, multi-stemmed shrub or small tree native to Japan. It features dark red winter buds, attractive pinnate foliage, clusters of white spring flowers, and bright red to orange-red fruit that provides excellent fall and winter interest. Fall color ranges from yellow to orange and red. It grows best in full sun to partial shade with moist, well-drained soil. Mature size is typically 10–20 ft tall and wide. After 10 years, it generally reaches 8–12 ft tall and 6–10 ft wide.
