Magnolia ‘Genie’ is a compact hybrid flowering tree (Magnolia × soulangeana × liliiflora ‘Genie’), developed by New Zealand breeder Vance Hooper. If you’re looking for a bold-flowering magnolia that doesn’t need a big yard to make a big impact, Magnolia ‘Genie’ might just be your dream tree. This compact beauty packs a serious punch with deep maroon-purple blooms. The tulip-shaped flowers are jaw-dropping. Buds start off a nearly black-purple and open to rich, velvety deep burgundy-purple. These blooms are about 6 inches across and they really pop against the foliage. ‘Genie’ is a slow growing upright and narrow tree, maxing out around 10–15 ft tall and 5–6 ft wide.
